The HTC One which is the Taiwanese manufacturer latest flagship phone that was launched back in March 2013 with an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, and it seems that the company is ready to roll out the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the smartphone soon.

Based on a tweet from an employee working as an HTC Developer, the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the company’s latest flagship the HTC One smartphone could be rolled out in less than two or three weeks from today although there is no official statement from the Taiwanese company regarding news on this potential software upgrade.

Meanwhile, FocusTaiwan reported last week that HTC is bracing itself to increase the production of HTC One as the demand in the market is high. It is revealed that almost 6 million units of Galaxy S4 has been shipped in just over two weeks and Samsung remain hopeful it will cross the 10 million mark by the end of this month.

Facebook Home Is Now Available For Download From Google Play

Facebook Home, the new launcher for Android based phone which put the main focus on the social network and its services such as messaging, photo and other services by putting it on the centre of a user’s mobile devices. The Facebook Home is now available for download for Google Official Apps store the Google Play with one bad news though, this app is only available for a limited number of Android devices(HTC One X, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy Note II). This come just after Facebook rollout update to its Facebook Messenger Android app which bring Chat Heads functionality plus basic Android app with Facebook Home support.

Facebook announced ‘Home’ earlier this month with the confirmation that the apps would be available in Google Play from April 12th onwards. Home is also coming straight out-of-the-box on the HTC First which has been available for pre-order since April 4 on AT&T. The HTC First will also be hitting France and UK market this summer and could follow suit to other markets such as Malaysia and India.

You can see full specification of the HTC First here

Home is Facebook’s biggest shot at mobile and clearly show the company’s ambition to be the main platform for all of your communications, ever present, no matter where and what you are doing. CEO of Facebook call it “the next version of Facebook “. Other moves also point toward that this may extend beyond just Android too. It just remain to be seen.

This clearly mean that even though Home is still limited in how many people can use it now – just the HTC First ,along with four other devices including two model from the world’s biggest smartphone maker, Samsung -  and with limited functionality, but if all the things go according to plan for Facebook, this could be just the beginning.

Facebook also look likely to place an announcements on streams to signal the availability, perhaps targeting users of those four devices specifically or even targeting all of its Android users. Facebook’s own Mobile page has some 6.1 million likes.

HTC M4 Image Leaked

Whenever we thought about the next HTC device surely, the HTC M7 will be the first to be in your mind but we all must not forget that HTC is also currently working on the HTC M4. And not forget that this mid-range Android phone in the same league as it siblings the M7 but it would be a very appealing option for customer that are looking for a device which is decently equipped at very affordable price.

While earlier rumour have revealed most of the HTC M4 Specs which include a 4.3-inch display, a 1.2GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM plus 5 megapixel camera at the back, we now have a clear picture of how the device might looks thanks to a handful of leaked image purportedly the HTC M4. The HTC M4 inherit some of the similarities of the HTC M7 and the older HTC One X released last year but what caught most of our attention was the camera on the front and the speaker grill. Oddly enough, the latest picture of the HTC M4 look very similar to a leaked image of white HTC M7 which surfaced in the middle of January.

We don’t see any reason to doubt whether the picture is indeed the  M4 Pictures, but it do raise question mark as the image is similar to the white  M7 leaked image. We have seen numerous image of a black HTC M7 which is completely different than the white version of the leaked images plus the HTC recent announcement of a new sound experience gives even more reason to believe the credential of the image that show stereo speakers on the front of the device.

Last year, Samsung went to great length to hide the final design of the Galaxy S III. Many of the engineers who worked on the project had no clue what the final design even looked like since they used special cases and even had alternate designs of the phone during development. Alternately, HTC could have a design specifically for North America and another design for Europe and the rest of the world. It’s impossible to know.

Could HTC follow the same tactics that Samsung do last year? Samsung was very aggressive to hide the final design of the flagship Galaxy SIII where even the engineers that worked on the project itself didn’t have the clue of how the final design might look as they only worked using special cases and even had an alternate design of the phone during the development. It is impossible to tell whether HTC might have decide to design phone specifically for North America and while another going to Europe plus the rest of the world market

HTC Says Consumers Want their Phones Smaller than 5 Inches

HTC had a casual conversation with gottabemobile.com in CES 2013. Folks at gottabemobile.com asked HTC what is their opinion regarding the growing phablet (portmanteau between phone and tablet) market.

HTC said they are evaluating the phablet market. But according to them, consumers in general do not want phones with displays exceeding 5 inches. But they are still watching the space.

This doesn't sound surprising as none of HTC phones such as the widely popular HTC One X and HTC Droid DNA (known as J Butterfly in Japan) have display beyond 5 inches. The display of HTC One X is 4.7 inches while the HTC Droid DNA’s display is exactly 5 inches. Even the well-known rumored HTC M7 is going to stick within this screen size.

HTC think that display size of 4.6 to 4.7 inches is the sweet spot for smartphones. With display size within 5-inch range, the device is often considered a phone based on functionality and user experience. In other word, devices with huge display such as Samsung Galaxy Note feel more like a tablet than a phone.

When asking about hardware, HTC says that “we are approaching a ceiling and that specs would not really matter as much moving forward.” Similar to Apple, HTC says they are going to focus on user experience, instead of even stronger hardware. Jumping from quad-core to faster quad-core processor in a handset won’t make much difference in average consumers’ eyes.

Regarding the rumor of HTC making Windows RT tablet, HTC says they are still monitoring the tablet space. HTC once announced they have quit tablet market, so it could be quite interesting to see HTC re-entering tablet market and brings us some interesting devices.

Look like HTC is concentrating on creating greater user experience through smarter user interface (possibly Sense 5.0) and innovation. We will have to wait until Mobile World Congress in February 2013 in order to see more about HTC’s next flagship devices.

HTC’s CEO Feels 2013 would be a Good Year

HTC's CEO, Peter Chou
Source: htcsource.com
HTC’s CEO Peter Chou accepted an interview from The Wall Street Journal, saying that “the worst for HTC has probably passed. 2013 will not be too bad.”

The interview report was published not long ago. Peter Chow said:

“Our competitors were too strong and very resourceful, pouring in lots of money into marketing. We haven’t done enough on the marketing front.”

2012 was not a good year for HTC. According to bgr.com, the global smartphone market share of HTC in Q3 (3rd quarter) 2012 is only 4.8 percent. Compared to Samsung’s market share of roughly 31 percent and Apple’s 15 percent, HTC only got a tiny tip, so as BlackBerry with 4.2 percent market share. Even Sony captured some spotlight as it rose over HTC at that time, at 5.1% market share.

As one of the most successful mobile company in 2011, HTC got a slap in the face judging 2012’s market result. Since early 2012, HTC decided to focus on premium devices, introducing the infamous HTC One series and rely very little on marketing. This is a complete opposite to Samsung’s move, which invested heavily in marketing and always readily advertise their products, especially flagship devices like Samsung Galaxy S3. Thus, Samsung gained more market awareness than HTC did.

Hopefully HTC can gain a foothold in 2013 and continue to deliver high quality devices. The newest offering, HTC J Butterfly was sold very well in Japan and even surpassed Apple iPhone 5. This could be a good indicator for HTC to catch up in ever expanding mobile market.

“One thing I’d learned from last year is to act fast and be responsive to market changes. We are being more flexible now. We are constantly fine-tuning our sales plans and position in various markets,” the CEO added in the interview. “Although we don’t have as much money to counter [Samsung and Apple], the most important thing is to have unique products that appeal to consumers.”

Rumor: HTC M7 is going to be announced in CES 2013?

Could this be the HTC M7? Source: androidadn.com

A twitter user by the name of @Football4PDA said that HTC might show off the wide-spread rumored HTC M7 during CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2013. This is what @Football4PDA posted on twitter:

"By some indirect information M7 might be announced on CES event. Moreover it might have screen buttons instead of hardware touch buttons..."

After HTC and Apple settled on the licensing agreement back in November 2012, HTC might have access on some of the Apple technology. This potentially led to more superior smartphone getting made by HTC which could greatly enhance user experience. Other smartphone manufacturers who have no right to touch Apple technology can only watch HTC utilize this opportunities to claw back some mobile market share, which mostly occupied by Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy handsets currently.

The specs of HTC M7 could surpass the likes of HTC Droid DNA, or HTC Butterfly J known in Japan. It is possibly power by 1.7GHz quad core processor along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB storage. It could also come with 4.7” Full HD display, with a whooping pixel density of 468ppi (pixels per inch). The camera feature isn’t a letdown either, with 2MP front-facing camera and 13MP rear camera which is capable of capturing 1080p video. Furthermore, it is boasted with the newest and fastest wireless connection technology today, LTE and 802.11ac WiFi function.

Some twitter comments suggest that HTC might announce HTC M7 during the CES in January 2013 because Samsung is expected to unveil Samsung Galaxy S4 in MWC (Mobile World Congress) coming February 2013. It seems like HTC wants to grab all attention of the mobile space before Samsung do it. Though, some comments indicate that Samsung is not going to unveil Samsung Galaxy S4 in MWC 2013, instead will show it sometimes in spring.

HTC Titan III Could be HTC's Third Windows 8 Smartphone

A reward survey on the Xbox Live to see what is the most sought after device to receive as gifts revealed HTC’s third handset, the Titan III. Although HTC’s Windows Phones 8X can be considered as a high-end device, it it not a match for the likes of Lumia 920, top Android devices or Apple flagship’s iPhone 5.

The main reason of why HTC put an average looking device out early on Windows 8 platform on the market was unclear, as it might be mere scrap attempt by HTC. But now, the logic is that HTC want to release the Titan III later as the Samsung Ativ and Huawei W1 will be released.

The Titan III was put alongside the iPhone 5, Samsung GalaxyS3, Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD and the Nokia Lumia 920. Some experts claimed it might be a typing error as the Titan II is out on the market and it is irrelevant to see the Titan II compare to the other phone features.

Initially named the HTC Zenith, the Titan III could be the third Windows phone from HTC after the 8S and 8X. It may not even be called the Titan III after all and might be named similar to 8S and 8X. X has been a regular code name for high-end HTC devices and it’s up for debate what the Titan III name would be.

The HTC Titan III will boast a 4.7-inch 720p display along with a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP camera and HSPA+ connectivity. Although this kind of specs doesn’t really fit in to what the US consumers which mostly prefer the smartphones with LTE. HTC may opt to release this to European and Asian market..
