HTC J Butterfly Launched in Australia for AUD849

The International and unlocked model of the latest HTC J Butterfly or known as Droid DNA for US market, is now available in Australia under the name HTC X920e Butterfly.

As the time of writing, the unlocked SIM free version of the device is offered exclusively by online phone retailer MobiCity and is on sale for AUD849 and Shipping of this exceptional smartphone is scheduled to begin on January 18th. Although not yet available in Europe, the Australian market pricing of the J Butterfly give us the rough idea of how the phone would cost when the phone eventually launch there.

The HTC Butterfly come with a 5-inch Full-HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, Super LCD 3 with Gorilla Glass 2, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 SoC with a quad-core 1.5HGz Krait CPU and Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM plus the 16GB of internal storage and of course there is the microSD expansion slot.

The smartphone also boast a 8-megapixel cameras with 1080p video recording capabilities and 2.1 megapixel front camera with both of the camera equipped with a dedicated HTC ImageChip technology and offer one-click continuous photography. Connectivity wise, the HTC Butterfly come with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS + GLONASS, NFC.

The Device is still awaited it official launch to European territory, as HTC has reportedly struggled to keep up with the production due to the very high demand for the phone.

On the other hand, HTC just released their early Q4 earning result and the news is not that encouraging for the Taiwanese based manufacturer. The revenue stats for HTC continue to fall and in the last quarter of 2012 they received $34 million (NT$1 billion) net income before taxes. HTC produced a 2.1 billion (NT$60 billion) revenue in Q4 of 2012 which is a big 41% drop from the last year’s numbers.

HTC Says Consumers Want their Phones Smaller than 5 Inches

HTC had a casual conversation with gottabemobile.com in CES 2013. Folks at gottabemobile.com asked HTC what is their opinion regarding the growing phablet (portmanteau between phone and tablet) market.

HTC said they are evaluating the phablet market. But according to them, consumers in general do not want phones with displays exceeding 5 inches. But they are still watching the space.

This doesn't sound surprising as none of HTC phones such as the widely popular HTC One X and HTC Droid DNA (known as J Butterfly in Japan) have display beyond 5 inches. The display of HTC One X is 4.7 inches while the HTC Droid DNA’s display is exactly 5 inches. Even the well-known rumored HTC M7 is going to stick within this screen size.

HTC think that display size of 4.6 to 4.7 inches is the sweet spot for smartphones. With display size within 5-inch range, the device is often considered a phone based on functionality and user experience. In other word, devices with huge display such as Samsung Galaxy Note feel more like a tablet than a phone.

When asking about hardware, HTC says that “we are approaching a ceiling and that specs would not really matter as much moving forward.” Similar to Apple, HTC says they are going to focus on user experience, instead of even stronger hardware. Jumping from quad-core to faster quad-core processor in a handset won’t make much difference in average consumers’ eyes.

Regarding the rumor of HTC making Windows RT tablet, HTC says they are still monitoring the tablet space. HTC once announced they have quit tablet market, so it could be quite interesting to see HTC re-entering tablet market and brings us some interesting devices.

Look like HTC is concentrating on creating greater user experience through smarter user interface (possibly Sense 5.0) and innovation. We will have to wait until Mobile World Congress in February 2013 in order to see more about HTC’s next flagship devices.

HTC Butterfly Available in China Next Week

Although many expert criticize HTC move to launch a latest flagship device just a few month after the launch of One X and One X+ , it look like HTC move to launch the Droid DNA earlier could have give Taiwanese giant a much breath of fresh air financial-wise.

With that clearly in mind, HTC is working hard to make the most of frenzy created by the world’s first smartphone that feature a 1080p Full HD display which is only have been released at Japan and Unites States so far. HTC now indeed have announced that it will found its way to other international market by the name of ‘Butterfly’ and customer can expect it to be a “beast”

As expected the specs for the international version of HTC flagship remain the same as the model released in Japan and U.S expect for the MicroSD extension slot. It will run on latest Android operating system, a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. HTC Butterfly will also come with a rather modest 8-megapixel with 1080p HD recording functionality on the back with 2-megapixel camera at the front.

It should hit the Chinese stores nationwide by the end of the year with China Unicom announced it schedule to make it available around “Mid December” which probably mean next week release is on the card. HTC Butterfly came in black, white and also brown.

The HTC Butterfly will be available for 4,799 Yuan with out a contract which is approximately $762 and yes its not one of the affordable device available but its not that bad either with the hope of HTC priced it around $650 or in between that for European market.

HTC also introduce the HTC Butterfly in a nice commercial which you can view below. Hope you can focus more on the phone itself.

New HTC M7 Could be Launched in Q1 2013

The latest HTC flagship, the HTC Droid DNA has just been on the market for two weeks and we are still waiting for the launch of the international version in the name of HTC Deluxe. It seems that HTC is already shift it focused to its next generation of flagship devices which multiple source claim that HTC is doing research and development with semiconductor and casing suppliers in an effort to make sure there is sufficient components to produce 4 to 5 million units of the HTC M7 in the first quarter of 2013.

As we all know. The latest HTC Droid DNA is running on the latest Android operating system with a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM with 16GB on internal storage with 8-megapixel camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera not to mention 1080p Full HD recording capabilities.

However, the exact specification of this mysterious HTC M7 a unclear with just some features are known. It is highly expected that the HTC M7 will come with a 5-inch HD display and a uni-body aluminum shell, a Qualcomm quad-core processor and 13 megapixel cameras at the back.

Various reports claimed that HTC is trying to get the HTC H7 to market in Q1 just a few months prior to the expected launch for the Samsung’snext generation flagship device the Galaxy S4. This advance launch of the HTC M7 is against HTC normal trend of launch time which the company usually chose to unveil its new products at Mobile World Congress expected to be held in the last week of February before entering the European market in early April.

Further more, if HTC managed to get the M7 early on the market, it will give the company a slight edge which should allow HTC to regain some market share from Samsung and improve the company’s financials in the first quarter of 2013.

Do You think HTC M7 will bring back the lost grounds in the mobile markets?
